NU was founded in 1898 as the Evening Institute for Younger Men at a local Boston YMCA. The first programs of study were law, automobile engineering, and finance. Northeastern University (NU) offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate degrees in the healthcare field. Most of these degrees are offered through the Bouvé College of Health Sciences. The college emphasizes interdisciplinary training and offers students the opportunity to participate in original research projects. The fields of study within the college are applied psychology, communication sciences and disorders, health sciences, nursing, pharmacy, physical therapy, movement, and rehabilitation sciences, physician assistant, and interdisciplinary programs.
Health Sciences offers the following undergraduate degrees: Health Sciences, Exercise Sciences Minor, Global Health Minor, and Health Sciences Minor. Northeastern University Accreditation Details
Northeastern University is regionally accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). The US Department of Education recognizes the NEASC as an accrediting organization. NU first received accreditation in 1940 and has maintained accredited status throughout its most recent reaffirmation in 2009. It is scheduled for reaffirmation in 2019.
The D’Amore-McKim School of Business at NU, which offers healthcare administration and policy degrees, is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International (AACSB). The Bouvé College of Health Sciences has received numerous accreditation for each of its fields of study. Nursing accreditations include ones from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education and the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing. Pharmacology degrees are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education. Northeastern University Application Requirements
Applicants to the Bouvé College graduate programs must submit an online application with a $75 non-refundable fee. The fee may be waived for Northeastern alumni, current AmeriCorps members, and to individuals affiliated to the Graduate Education for Minorities or the Ronald E. McNair Post-baccalaureate Achievement Programs. Candidates must also submit three letters of recommendation from academic and professional references, a statement of purpose, a current resume, and official transcripts from any higher learning institutions attended. Some programs require the submission of GRE or GMAT scores. Nursing program applicants must submit a copy of any professional certifications, including a current US nursing license.
Applicants to the D’Amore-McKim School of Business must submit an online application, a personal statement, a current resume, two letters of recommendation, GMAT or GRE results, and all university-level transcripts.
Tuition and Financial Aid
The cost for one year of undergraduate study at Northeastern is $49,497. This includes full-time tuition and fees. Students who are accepted to NU will automatically be considered for a number of grants and scholarships based on their academic performance. In addition to these, students may qualify for work-study throughout their time in their program.
Graduate student tuition varies based on the field of study chosen. Most classes from the Bouvé College of Health science cost $1,500 per credit hour. The cost for an MBA degree is $68,000. NU offers assistantships, scholarships, loans, and work awards to make their programs affordable for students. Candidates who are interested in an assistantship should contact their department of study to apply for part-time or full-time assistantships. Departments may also offer Graduate School Scholarships to eligible candidates. Both undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each year by the deadline.
